About Colin Munro

A destructive left-handed opening batter, Colin Munro was one of the pioneers of New Zealand's aggressive approach in white-ball cricket. Born in Durban, South Africa, before moving to New Zealand, Munro built a reputation as one of the most feared T20 batters in the world thanks to his fearless strokeplay, clean ball-striking and ability to dominate the PowerPlay. He also chipped in with handy right-arm medium pace and has enjoyed a globe-trotting franchise career spanning almost every major T20 league.

Munro represented Auckland throughout his domestic career, making his First-class debut in 2006, List A debut in 2006 and T20 debut in 2010. Although he began steadily, he soon established himself as one of New Zealand's most prolific domestic batters across formats. He produced several memorable knocks for the Auckland Aces, including an unbeaten 269 in the Plunket Shield, one of the highest individual scores in the team's history. In 2018, Munro shifted his focus almost exclusively to white-ball cricket to extend his franchise career.

Munro made his international debut during New Zealand's tour of South Africa in 2012, earning both his ODI and T20I caps before receiving his lone Test cap in early 2013. While his ODI career produced mixed results, he established himself as one of the world's most explosive T20I openers. Munro became the first men's player to score three T20I centuries, rose to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men's T20I batting rankings, and smashed a breathtaking 14-ball half-century against Sri Lanka in 2016, which remains the fastest T20I fifty by a New Zealander. He represented the Black Caps in multiple ICC tournaments, including the 2019 ODI World Cup, before retiring from international cricket in 2024.

Munro has been a sought-after name on the global T20 circuit for more than a decade. He has represented franchises including Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in the IPL, Sydney Sixers, Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League, Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL, Islamabad United and Karachi Kings in the PSL, Desert Vipers in the ILT20, Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket, Manchester Originals in The Hundred and several other teams around the world.

One of the most decorated players in franchise T20 cricket, Munro has won 11 T20 titles during his illustrious career. Among his finest campaigns came with Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2018 Caribbean Premier League, where he topped the run-scoring charts with 567 runs in 13 matches, won the Player of the Tournament award and guided the franchise to the title. He added another major trophy in Major League Cricket 2026, playing a pivotal role in Los Angeles Knight Riders' maiden championship-winning campaign by finishing as the team's leading run-scorer with 438 runs in 11 matches, further cementing his reputation as one of the most accomplished overseas players on the global T20 circuit.
