UP Warriorz vs Delhi Capitals: A place in the TATA WPL Final at stake

The TATA WPL 2023 season has been full of excitement, keeping players and fans at the edge of their seats. For us, it is slowly evolving into being a successful one.

We became only the second team to seal qualification for the playoffs. Hence, our Meg-a-star decided to throw a lovely surprise your way.

P.S. Wait for the end!

Today, our highly talented and inspired squad, moulded under coach Jonathan Batty, stands on the cusp of WPL history. However, it is the UP Warriorz whom we go up against to seal a spot in the inaugural edition’s final, subject to the afternoon game’s result too going our way.

It was a whirlwind performance against MI on Monday that helped us take top spot, for now. While Marizanne Kapp derailed Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. with the bat, Alice Capsey and Shafali Verma made light work of the MI total in the run chase.

Our girls have been putting in the hard yards for the upcoming crunch games.

Meanwhile, the season started with a rock-solid opening performance by skipper Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma. Meg has now taken the coveted Orange cap as the battle between her and Sophie Devine intensifies!

We have banked upon our superstar Marizanne Kapp to bail us out in tough situations. Kappie has done so very well, rather consistently. Her recent, mystic five-for was surely unforgettable.

Shafali Verma and Shikha Pandey have been among our other outstanding performers this season. Shafali’s blitzkrieg against GG had everyone on the edge of their seats. Shikha, on the other hand, is our leading wicket-taker.

Here’s what Shikha had to say about THAT Shafali whirlwind!

Last but not least, our fielding has been a joy to hold. Our highlight reel for the season was made richer by those amazing efforts.

Going into the final exchanges of the TATA WPL 2023 season, DC BELIEVES!

Strap your seatbelts for:

The JJ show

Dilliwaalon, just taking you back to Jonassen’s captivating performance last time out against UPW. She smashed 42 off 20 balls before scalping three wickets.

Jess has enjoyed a stellar campaign, while her all-round exploits have guided DC home in multiple games. We all hope to see it once again at Brabourne on Tuesday.

Meg-a knock

Skipper Meg Lanning has been the backbone of our batting this season. She is the current Orange Cap holder. The knocks have also been played at a mega pace too.

Having already notched two fifties, Lanning will be hungry for more. Afterall, she is THE STORM.

Our power-play exploits

Alongside Lanning, Shafali has also chipped in with rampant batting performances. The duo, together, have been involved in two 100-plus partnerships.

As we look to close out the league stage with another W, Lanning and Shafali will be expected to go out all guns blazing against UPW.

Look out for these battles:

Alyssa Healy vs Marizanne Kapp

We boast an excellent economy rate in the TATA WPL during the powerplay. Kappie deserves huge credit for that as her tight bowling, which has delivered wickets in a heap, has been influential.

Meanwhile, Alyssa Healy likes to take on the bowlers early in the innings. It promises to be a fascinating contest.

Reminder: Kapp recently dismissed Healy in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final.

Sophie Ecclestone vs Meg Lanning

Lanning, at times in WPL 2023, has looked unassailable when she comes out to bat. Our consistent run-scorer has sent shivers down the spine of opponents with her brisk batting.

However, even she has found left-arm spin difficult to negotiate. English left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, meanwhile, is among the top wicket-takers in the competition. The guile and turn she is expected to get at Brabourne will be a reason to worry for Lanning.

Tahlia McGrath vs Jess Jonassen

This all-Australian clash is one we are looking forward to witnessing on Tuesday. Jess Jonassen’s feats this season have been pre-advertised. She has definitely been roaring with bat and ball.

Similarly, Tahlia McGrath remains UPW’s key all-rounder. The 27-year-old was in mesmerizing touch against us last time out, scoring 90 runs off only 50 deliveries.

Jess would know all about McGrath’s game, so we can expect our stalwart to grab her wicket early on this time. Also when it comes to batting in the death overs, Jess would be expected to take on McGrath to help us pile on the runs.
